Today we had an early start at 6.45 ready to get the bus to Penang at 7.30am. Almost immediately a weird English guy attempted to start conversation with us which we tried to shut down- I don't want to commit to talking to anyone for 10 hours. The journey was boring and involved a lot of snacks as well as a long wait at a bus station in Hat Yai where we were told we needed to visit an office in a tuk tuk ?? It sounded very much like a scam so we refused to go. The bus arrived quite a while later and we soon reached the Malaysian border.
We arrived in Penang at around 8pm and put our bags in the hostel before heading out for some food. We went to a big shopping mall and wandered around, changed our thai baht into ringit and then ended up in subway getting some food before heading back to the hostel. I saw a mouse/rat near reception which wasn't the greatest start, and our dorm was full of middle aged people, but we soon went to sleep.
