Last day on the Perhentians

We woke up around 9 and headed out for some breakfast at a local restaurant. Our plan today was to do a walk to a view point, lagoon and turtle beach. Meg was keen to do it but after her recent hospital trip we suggested she got a taxi boat and met us there. This turned out to be a very good idea as the one hour walk was actually more like a hike, and by the time we reached the lagoon we were very sweaty. The name was somewhat misleading as it was actually a beach, but it was very pretty and had some swings as well as a little station which we sat off to cool off.

After a while here we did the 10 minute walk over to turtle beach. This was a small beautiful beach with not many people around, and we spent the next hour or so relaxing in the sun. I tried to swim but there were a lot of rocks until the water which I kept worrying were turtles so it didn't make for the most pleasant time! Afterwards the others decided to get a taxi boat back to where we were staying but I opted to walk it, and had another hour long sweaty return journey.

I met the others in a restaurant where we got some late lunch. Meg had started to feel very ill and had come up in a rash which was very worrying, so we went back to the hostel. Of course Google said this was very much dengue and so we thought it would be a good idea to head back to the mainland so as to be near a hospital if necessary. We collected our stuff and headed to the port, but as we were after the last ferry Meg paid for a private boat to the mainland.
From here we got a grab into the town near the airport where we were flying from the next day, which turned out to be a very interesting experience. Not long into the journey the driver's phone lost GPS connection, and he started to repeat the words "lost" and "problem". We couldn't do a lot to help as bone of us have Internet on our phones, but he didn't even follow the main road signs and as it got darker we started to think we were never going to make it! However after an hour and a half driving round he found the clinic which we had requested where meg was going to get checked, despite feeling a lot better now.

On pulling up at the clinic it quickly became apparent that it was very much closed, but the driver offered to take us to our hostel. He drove around and we laughed and said how we would have to get out at the hostel even if it was closed, too. After getting out on a busy road we asked the owners of a local food stand where our hostel was, but they had never heard of it. A good start. This continued as we asked more people, and we ended up in McDonald's checking the location. For some reason it was nowhere to be found, and we ended up looking up somewhere else to stay. It was now around 9.30pm and we tried to book a grab to the new hostel, but no drivers were accepting our ride. We then walked to the main shopping area and asked about a taxi, and were told they "didn't really run at night" ! Starting to expect we were going to have to sleep at the shopping centre, someone finally accepted our grab ride, and soon we were checked in to a hostel and off to bed!
