Today was our last day in Jaipur, and after breakfast at the hostel we planned to head to a local market. However by the time we'd eaten and checked out we went to get some snacks for the train ride and we didn't have much time, so we ended up going straight to the train station. It was a bit confusing getting our tickets but as always the locals were keen to help and we found the ticket office, arriving at the platform with a few minutes to spare.
We were on our way to a place called Pushkar, but the nearest train station is called Ajmer so we were headed to this town. When we arrived we needed to take a tuk tuk to the bus station to get the local bus for the rest of the journey. We managed to get a cheap tuk tuk for 18 rupees, but when we arrived at the bus station he wouldn't accept our money. He spoke no English but seemed really angry because we were trying to use a coin to pay for some of it. He kept refusing it and shouting in Hindi. Another tuk tuk driver signalled to us that the guy was crazy and we tried to walk away when he picked up a rock! So bizarre honestly and I'm not sure if the intention was to harm us or the other driver but we found a 20 note and headed off!
The local bus cost only 12 rupees each and took about half an hour. We arrived in Pushkar around 4pm and checked into our hostel before heading out in search of food. Meat, eggs and alcohol are banned in the holy city making it vegetarian heaven, and we found a falafel restaurant where we all got wraps. They were sooo good, and I also got a date, banana and coconut shake. We went for a little wander around the main area of the town which is a lot of little market shops and stalls which was really nice, though with no pavement it was hard to avoid being hit by either cows or cars.
We ended up at a massage parlour and I finally got the massage I'd wanted for weeks. The women who did it was so sweet and asked loads of questions about us. I was so relaxed and sleepy afterwards! Katie got her nails done and for some reason it took sooo long which was funny as we ended up sat for ages but it was fine as we had nothing else to do! We then headed back and meg got a Mars roll and I had a juice. We then went back to our room which was BOILING. Even after a cold shower it felt like a sauna and the hostel owner suggested upgrading to air con which was a bit cheeky. We eventually managed to sleep despite being in what was practically an oven.
