Attempted cooking class and Pushkar

Today was our only full day in Pushkar and we had booked on to a 1pm cooking class so headed out for some brunch. We found a nice rooftop restaurant, half of the profits of which go to helping street children. We spent a while here (mainly because the food took ages) and then looked around more of the market, walking to the other end of the town.

We got back to the hostel and were walked to a woman's house for the cooking class. The name was a bit of a lie, as it quickly became apparent that we weren't going to be cooking. The commercial courses offered are 1300 which seemed excessive, so when the hostel told us about a 200 rupee one it seemed too good to be true. It was.

The woman was lovely and taught us about the different spices used in indian cooking, but she made a simple curry and we tried a bit, and she then announced that this was the end of the class. We ended up dragging it out a bit by asking to see how a chapati is made and asking questions about her life, and how she lives with her in laws as is traditional in india. However we headed back feeling a bit confused about what we'd just been to, and the hostel owners didn't react when we said we thought we'd be doing a bit more cooking.

As we now hadn't eaten we ventured out and went to a place selling thali for 50 rupees. This included 3 small portions of vegetable curry, rice and 4 chapatis. So cheap! My stomach hadn't been good for a couple of days so I mainly just ate the chapatis, but for that price it was still a bargain! After this we went for yet another wander, and then headed off to a big temple about a 40 minute walk away. It was quite literally at the top of a hill but somehow the walk wasn't as bad as it looked, and the views from the top were amazing, even through the sweat. It was almost dark when we got down and we got a tuk tuk back to town which ended up being such a short journey we definitely could have walked. We went back to our favourite falafel place so meg could get another Mars roll and then headed back to the hostel.
