Yet another early start. Honestly think I'm becoming a morning person thanks to this trip! We were up just after 6 again ready for a 6.30 breakfast, and were then picked up by our bus to Kathmandu. It started well. It was a modern little tourist mini bus, and whilst I had to sit on my own at the front because my fold out seat was at a peculiar angle, it seemed promising. However; about an hour into the journey it became apparent that we weren't staying on this bus for long. We pulled over and I was instructed to change bus. I insisted that the others went on the same bus as me, and we then unloaded our bags and moved them to the other bus. However; this didn't leave for almost another hour. Apparently it had had to stop as the air conditioning wasn't working. It was boiling so I spent most of this hour stood next to the bus trying not to sweat too much!
When it finally left the journey started uneventfully. We stopped and had some samosas after a while, and then people tried to make me swap seats with them for no real reason which was a bit odd. Pretty soon though, we started to make random stops for long periods of time, and it became apparent that there was something wrong with the bus. At one point we got off to see what was going on and found that at that exact moment the bus was being pushed to jump start it, and we had to jump back on.
This happened a couple more times, not ideal when the bus is taking you round narrow, windy mountain roads, and it meant that the 5 hour distance took about 8 and a half. We arrived in Kathmandu at last and got a taxi to our hostel. Meg and I decided to go to the gym and so set off. We spent about an hour and a half there, getting our £1.60 worth, and then met Katie for dinner. We went to a really nice Thakali restaurant (local Nepalese food) recommended in the travel times which was cool. Afterwards we headed back to the hostel for (you guessed it) another early night in preparation for (you guessed it) ANOTHER early start!
