Perhaps we are doing Melbourne wrong but we we're a bit stuck for touristy things to do. It was a bit of a rainy day so we decided to go to the zoo. Obviously after a quick stop at lord of the fries.. we got the tram there and found it pretty easily, and even managed to get student price with our "international youth cards" which definitely don't sag student anywhere on them.
We set off into what looked like an underwhelming zoo, but, as a review on trip advisor warned us, we shouldn't be put off by this. And we weren't disappointed; there were so many animals!! Giraffes, zebras, koalas, elephants, wombats all up so close as well as tigers, a reptile house etc. It was a very good zoo. We spent the afternoon wandering around looking at the animals, but I was sad they didn't do the classic 'hold a koala and get a photo with it' (though there's a pretty high risk of chlamidya so maybe best this way).
We went to a couple of talks, ignoring the fact that a lot of attendees were under the age of 5. In the evening we got trams back and I went for a run and then we went to buy ingredients for dinner. When we got back to the hostel Abi, my friend from work who is coming in the camper van with us, had arrived. We made Mexican food and ate together and then introduced her to the rank dorm before heading to bed. A pretty good day!
